Promote, demote and give infractions to staff

Your staff ranks are set up so promotions move people one rank at a time, infractions are logged with an ID, and every change shows up on the staff member's profile.

10 minutesAdmins (Administrator)

At the end you can promote someone with one command, demote them, log an infraction against them, and look up everything on their record. Each action posts a card in a log channel and DMs the staff member.

Before you start

  • Setting up ranks and channels needs the Administrator permission or server ownership.
  • Your rank roles must already exist in Server Settings, in order, highest rank at the top.
  • The bot's own role must sit above every rank role, or it cannot add or remove them.

Steps

1. Add your rank roles

Type /staff ranks action:Add a rank role:@Trainee. Repeat for each rank, for example @Moderator, @Senior Moderator, @Admin.

You see: a "Staff ranks" card listing your ranks, highest first, with how many members hold each.

The order comes from your role order in Server Settings, not the order you add them. To change the order, drag the roles in Server Settings.

2. Pick a manager role and a promotion channel

Type /staff settings manager_role:@Staff Manager promotion_channel:#promotions.

You see: a "Staff settings" card showing the manager role and promotion channel.

People with the manager role can promote, demote, give and void infractions, approve leave, and read other staff members' profiles, without being server admins.

3. Pick an infraction channel

There is no command for this one. Open https://cc.pcdev.dev/dashboard/, pick your server, go to Moderation, and set Infraction log. If you skip this, each infraction card posts in the channel where the command was typed.

4. Promote someone

Type /promote member:@user. Leave role empty to move them up one rank, or pick a rank with role:@Senior Moderator. Add reason: if you want it on the card.

You see: a "Staff Promotion" card in your promotion channel showing the previous rank, new rank and reason. Their old rank role is removed and the new one added. They also get the card by DM.

5. Demote someone

Type /staff demote member:@user reason:Inactive. Leave rank empty to move them down one rank.

You see: "Moved @user down to @Rank." and a "Staff Demotion" card in the promotion channel.

6. Log an infraction

Type /infract member:@user type:Strike reason:Abusing powers. Start typing in type to pick from the list: Warning, Strike, Under Investigation, Suspended, Suspension, Demotion, Termination. notes: is optional.

You see: "Logged a Strike for @user (Infraction ID 12)." A "Staff Infraction" card posts in your infraction channel and is sent to them by DM.

Note
The type Demotion also moves them down one rank when you have ranks set up.

7. Void an infraction given by mistake

Type /staff void infraction:12 reason:Wrong person. Use the ID from the infraction card.

You see: "Voided infraction 12 (Strike) on @user." It stays on their record, crossed out, and no longer counts.

8. Look someone up

  • /staff profile member:@user shows their rank, hours, quota progress, infractions and promotions on one card.
  • /staff history member:@user lists infractions, rank changes and leave. Use show: to see only one of those.

Leave member empty to see your own. Looking at someone else needs the manager role or Administrator.

Change it later

  • Remove a rank: /staff ranks action:Remove a rank role:@OldRank
  • Turn a setting off: /staff settings clear:Promotion channel
  • Change the words on the cards: t!promotetext title Your new title, t!demotetext desc New text, t!infracttext show (these are typed as normal messages, not slash commands)
  • Give a role automatically with an infraction type: t!infractlink Suspension @Suspended 2w
  • Add your own infraction type: t!infracttype add Verbal Warning
Tip
Rank roles, the manager role and the promotion channel are also on the dashboard under Staff & shifts.

If something goes wrong

  • "Pick a role, or list your rank roles with /staff ranks so I know what the next rank is." You used /promote with no role before setting ranks. Do step 1.
  • "I couldn't change those roles. Check that my role is above the rank roles." Drag the County Control role above your rank roles in Server Settings.
  • "Only staff managers can demote." or "Only staff managers can void infractions." Give the person the manager role from step 2.
  • "You don't have access to this command here." on /promote or /infract. The person is not an admin and does not have the manager role. Give them the manager role.
  • The infraction card appeared in the wrong channel. No infraction channel is set. Do step 3.
  • "@user is already at the top rank." There is no rank above theirs. Pick a role with role: if you want to give them one outside the ladder.
